Career summary


Malcolm studied at Southampton University, gaining a BA in Music and English Literature

in 1966, and later a Diploma in Librarianship, followed by a Diploma in Theology from Birmingham University


He joined Birmingham Libraries, and in 1970 was made Head of Music Services. After early retirement in 1995, he became a consultant, specialising in IT and music bibliography.


Malcolm has been active in IAML(UK & Irl), the International Association of Music Libraries (UK & Ireland Branch), all his working life; he is a Past President and an Honorary Member.


In 2002 he won the Tony Kent Strix Award

of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals for "his lifetime contribution to the advancement of information science through his work on the bibliographic control of music materials."


Malcolm and Frances

Malcolm is married to Frances; they have have two daughters and four grandchildren; after living most of their lives in Birmingham, they moved to East Sussex, where Malcolm was Vicar of the parish of St. Richard, Heathfield, now retired they live in Northiam, where he continues his ministry and bibliographic work.


Sadly, they have given up their narrowboat, but not their interest in canals. Malcolm is on the local area committee of the Inland Waterways Association, representing the River Rother, which runs down their back garden. He is also is often to be found as a stationmaster on the Kent & East Sussex Railway.


Meanwhile Frances plays in and helps organise local orchestras, and is a Churchwarden.
